Scartella cristata, commonly known as the Molly miller, is a small blenny, very common in many seas. These blennies are one of the most underappreciated fish in our opinion, overshadowed by the way more popular Salarias. But take a look at these reef safe fish. They're very disease resistant and can handle small changes in water quality quite well. From a distance they might look a bit dull green-brown, but when you observe them a little closer you'll notice thay've quite an interesting pattern. But probably the best part about these fish is that they're known to eat many unwanted things in our aquaria. Think about detritus and all sorts of algae including Bryopsis sp.! And although mostly herbivourous when mature, they've even been observed to eat aiptasia!
In nature these fishes are found around algae-coated rocks and when they feel threatened they quickly retrieve into a small hole or Strombus shell untill the danger is gone. Make sure you supplement their diet with enough algae containing flakes and pellets, especially when little algae is present in the tank. Just be careful combining them with other blennies.
This fish is Tank Bred and will readily eat dry food and adapts to your aquarium easier compared to a wild caught specimen!
