The Blackbar Filefish (Pervagor janthinosoma) is a beautiful, relatively small (13-15 cm) filefish with a bright red tail that highly contrasts it drab olive body. They are quite peaceful and will readily feed on frozen food. They are saaid to be relatively reef safe, however care should be taken with all filefish as some individuals may develop an appetite for certain corals - including aiptasia or majano nuisance anemones. In the wild, this species can be found in lagoons, rocky reefs and outer reefs with heavy coral growth, where they find hiding places among latrge coral colonies.
